Having just watched the daily news this morning and the ongoing debates on the issues of the day, particularly, Healthcare, I have come to the conclusion that our country and government is flat lined and seemingly cannot solve any of our problems. Is that where we are? Debate after debate, hearing after hearings, oversight committees after oversight committees, Presidential speeches and events, constant television interviews and it appears that we seemingly fall further into national collapse.
Several years ago, I can recall visiting the Pentagon several times as well as other government agencies and receiving some high level briefings. It occurred to me then that the planners and the senior officers were so involved with process and consumed with their PowerPoint presentations and moving to the next meeting, conference or briefing that no bottom line solutions were evident. More time was expended in additional study and more analysis and, of course, more money and expended manpower and time. Any of us who have experienced first- hand government service in Washington know what I am talking about. This is not to take away the service and support of many dedicated and hardworking government workers and what they provide the country.
The gigantic bureaucracy created at all levels of government now seems paralyzed in their endeavors to streamline government and spending. Yes, America, you are watching while Washington burns before your eyes. What does a country and its citizens do as their nation continues to collapse? What are you going to do? The Declaration of Independence states: “To secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to affect their Safety and Happiness.”
Some of the issues – Are we really solving anything or is it all smoke and mirrors?
An example of the National Security issue. We have operational war planners at all levels of command, senior policy and politicos in the White House and Department of Defense, a National Security Team and a multitude of military commands positioned around the globe to guide and lead us in national security. But where are the common sense and rational senior General and Admiral Strategists that we have trained and schooled to be innovative, aggressive and win our nation’s wars quickly and decisively.
I rarely hear any of them talking about the valued Principles of War that successful combat leaders in the past have used to achieve success and victory. They cannot even talk in terms of victory, winning and bringing the troops home. Or maybe, they do not want to for politically correct reasons at home.
As a consequence, the U.S. must adopt a national military strategy that heavily leverages the core capability to break enemy states, target and destroy the enemy’s capability to bring harm to America. Such a strategy could defeat and disrupt most potential threats the U.S. faces. While America’s adversaries today may prefer to engage the U.S. using proxies and develop radical Islamist organizations and jihadists, there is no rationale in declaring to the people of the United States that we are in a long war and accept that as a reason to not achieve quick and decisive victory.
It appears we fight more in agreement with the so called the United Nations, allies and the likes of China and Russia than to stand up for our own sovereignty. It is time to relegate these so-called allies to the sidelines. Let them wail and whimper as we achieve the success that is necessary; wiping out and neutralizing Islamic jihad and nation states that support it.
America’s reliance on government has reached an all-time high in 2010 – relying on the government dole like never before. People are taking more aid from the government than they are paying in taxes. Enough is Enough. Economic growth depends on consumer spending and jobs in the private sector, not in the government sector. While our government was bailing out the banks and Wall Street, the banks were cutting credit to consumers by a record of $250 billion.
Yes, legislatures, pass more bills, raise the taxes but do not dare to cut government structure and spending. Print more money and sell more of our debt to the Chinese. You do not need to pass more legislation to grow the bureaucracy and make our lives more regulated and complicated. Give us as little government as possible. Our Founders were more aware of this than our current leaders who seem clueless. Please leave us alone, and please do not feel what you are doing in Washington is helping us anymore. America seems quite happy when you are out of session. We can take care of ourselves. God be with us!
